Combining two major art history resources
Grove Art Online is a new addition to the electronic resources available through Falvey Library’s web site. You can link to the online version under Databases by Title and on the Art History Resources page under the Encyclopedias tab.
The online version is easy to use, and the Villanova University community can access it from anywhere. An advanced search feature makes it possible to search the full text of the database. Searches can be limited to biographies, bibliographies or contributors. The new “Explore” feature creates customized browse lists, such as a list of all entries related to textiles or to female art collectors. “Browse” makes it possible to browse the table of contents, the index and a list of contributors. The image search option is an added bonus.
The content of this new resource is constantly updated and new entries are added. It is actually based on two print resources, the 34 volume Grove Dictionary of Art and the Oxford Companion to Western Art. Both print titles are available in the Reference collection on the first floor of Falvey.
Grove Art Online contains 45,000 articles and over 3,000 images. Take advantage of this great new resource and let us know what you think.
