Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Falvey Memorial Library recently began subscribing to the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, an online bibliographic research tool which includes 2,500 journals, scholarly and popular, published in the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia since 1741.
In addition to better known journals such as American Architect, American Art, The Burlington Magazine and Metropolitan Museum Journal, the index also covers publications from professional organizations and state and regional publications. According to its publisher, “The Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals offers the most comprehensive listing of journal articles on architecture and design. … It contains more than four hundred thousand entries.”
There are references for city planning, interior design, historic preservation, archaeology and other subjects. The index also includes 13,000 obituary citations for architects from 1876 to the present. One can search by keyword, author, title, subject or conference name, and the search can be limited to English, if desired.
The Avery Index, published by the Getty Research Institute, is updated weekly.
Villanova University users may access the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals by title through VUCat via the library home page. The Avery Index is also listed in Resources by Subject under Art History / Articles and alphabetically under Databases by Title.
The Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals provides another useful tool for students and scholars to research art history.
