At your fingertips: Locating book reviews online

Falvey Memorial Library's home page now features two major online sources for locating book reviews: Book Review Digest Plus (BRDP) and Book Review Index (BRI).

Are you looking for a recently published, authoritative book review? Updated daily, BRDP includes 1.3 million reviews of fiction and nonfiction in every major discipline. The review citations, selected from over 8000 periodicals indexed in the eleven databases published by Wilson, may include excerpts or full text. Coverage goes back to 1983.

Or, are you searching for reviews of a book published a while ago? BRI’s coverage extends back to 1967, is updated monthly and includes more than five million review citations of fiction and nonfiction in every major discipline. Thousands of publications are indexed, including journals, general interest magazines and newspapers.

Access is easy. Both BRDP and BRI are listed on Falvey’s Databases by Subject page under Multi-subject; Book & Movie Review Resources or under Databases by Title. Each database displays our Find It icon which will link to the full-text review, if available.

Many of the same reviews can be found in both BRDP and BRI. However, on occasion there are reviews that are unique to one or the other database so, depending on your needs, you might want to search both.

Other databases providing reviews of books are Project Muse and JSTOR, which does not include the five most recent years, and subject specific databases, such as Catholic Periodical and Literature Index, Science Citation Index Expanded and Business Source Premier.
