Joe Lucia, University Librarian and director of Falvey Memorial Library, was recently elected president of PALINET, one of the largest and oldest regional U.S. library networks, serving 600 institutional members in the mid-Atlantic region. PALINET trains over 1400 people annually through its distance and onsite workshops, provides valuable library services and resources at discounted rates to institutional members through its group-purchasing program and is the region's provider of searching and cataloging services through OCLC.
Darren Poley, Outreach librarian and a member of the Digital Library team, attended the second International Open Repositories Conference, January 23-26, in San Antonio, Texas. The conference focused on the emerging trend for libraries to be the conservators of scholarly communication in digital form using open access software. Villanova's innovative Digital Library is in the forefront of U. S. universities its size due to the vision and efforts of Falvey's entire team.
Teri Ann Incrovato, Digital Library and Special Collections curatorial assistant, attended the “Persistence of Memory: Stewardship of Digital Assets” conference, sponsored by the Northeast Document Conservation Center, December 4-5, in Tucson, Arizona.
