More journals and magazines at your fingertipsDuring the 2004/2005 academic year, 425,000 e-journal articles were accessed from Falvey's periodical collections. With the ever-increasing demand for electronic journals, and the ever-decreasing use of print journals, a decision was made to switch another 600 print subscriptions to online access only. This brings the Library’s access to electronic journals to over 11,000 titles.
A noticeable change will be seen in the open Current Periodical stacks where the remaining print titles were consolidated into a smaller physical space. The bound volumes for most of these journals can still be found in the Bound Periodical stacks, even though many of the canceled print titles do have back years available online.
You can access these online journals by searching by journal title in VUCat, the Falvey online catalog or through the E-Journal & Article Finder link on the library home page. The University community can easily retrieve these articles from offices, dorm rooms or home.
Many of the library databases also provide direct links via the Find It button to articles in subscribed publications.
Expect this e-journal conversion to continue in 2006 as more publishers provide electronic access to their publications. If you have any problems gaining access to a desired journal, please contact Susan Markley, head of the Periodical Department, at 610-519-6729.
